Frequently asked questions

What is a bid/no-bid decision?

A bid/no-bid decision is the structured judgement of whether a tender is worth pursuing before you invest time writing it. Bidding is expensive, so weighing capability fit, your chance of winning, the contract’s value, your capacity to deliver, and the time available stops you spreading effort across bids you were never likely to win.

How do you score a bid/no-bid decision?

Rate the opportunity against the factors that predict success — capability fit, competitive position, how open the field is, commercial value, delivery capacity, time to write a strong response, buyer relationship and strategic value — then weight them and total the score. This calculator does that and gives a bid, consider or no-bid recommendation, flagging the weakest factors.

When should you decide not to bid?

Walk away when the effort clearly outweighs the odds: weak capability fit, an entrenched incumbent, too little time to respond well, no capacity to deliver, or thin margins. A disciplined no-bid frees your team to win the opportunities you can actually take.

How is PSIP’s bid/no-bid scorecard different?

This calculator relies on your own judgement of each factor. Inside PSIP, the qualification scorecard adds hard data — the buyer’s real spend, who the incumbent is and how much they’ve been paid, and how the requirements map to your profile — so the decision is grounded in evidence, not just gut feel.
